Brazilian leather: 2013 exports already surpass 2012

Even before the end of 2013, exports of Brazilian hides and skins have already surpassed the value registered in 2012. According to the numbers assessed by the Department of Intelligence of the Centre for the Brazilian Tanning Industry (CICB), with additional information from the Department of Foreign Trade – Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade (MDIC), the accumulated value of exports of Brazilian hides and skins from January to November 2013 have reached a total of US$ 2,269 billion. Through all of 2012, exports reached US$ 2,079 billion. In other words, even if there is still a month to go until the final balance of 2013, Brazilian leather exports are already 9% higher than in 2012.

When considering November 2013 alone, sales of hides and skins to the international market reached a total of US$ 214 million, which represents an increase of 21,7% in comparison to the same month last year. Its participation in Brazilian exports remained at 1%.

Through all of 2013, exports of Brazilian hides and skins have played a key role so that the Brazilian trade balance does not register an even more negative performance (deficit of US$ 89 million until November).
