Circular Economy: meet the central theme of the CSCB Sustainability Forum

Circular economy is one of the most innovative and creative production models around, and it will soon be the subject of debate during the CSCB Sustainability Forum. The event takes place on August 11th in Novo Hamburgo, Brazil, at Feevale University.

The CSCB Forum features special lectures and round tables that will discuss challenges faced by the leather, footwear and fashion industries having circular economy as the central thread. The CSCB Sustainability Forum is promoted by the Centre for the Brazilian Tanning Industry (CICB), with gold sponsorship from JBS Couros, silver sponsorship from Stahl and support from ABQTIC (the Brazilian Association of Chemists and Technicians from the Leather Industry).

In order to understand how circular economy works, one needs to first look at the current production model that we live upon. The traditional dynamics of economy are based on the process: “extract – produce – discard”. They comprehend the consumption of limited resources, facing an imminent depletion of raw materials. Circular economy, however, is based on capital reconstruction – be it financial, human, social or natural. It opposes the traditional system, suggesting that the value of resources that we extract and produce remain in circulation by means of integrated production chains.
