“Leather, wood, and Brazilian design are a good combination to conquer the foreign market.” The opening line belongs to Leonardo Lattavo, partner at design studio Lattoog. It clearly illustrates the idea and objectives of Design na Pele’s third edition: to combine quality and talent from Brazil for the production of unique articles focused on enhancing exports. Lattoog is part of Design na Pele in a partnership formed with furniture company Sandrin and tannery Curtume Rusan. Together, the three are creating a collection of furniture that has leather as the main raw material. Design na Pele is promoted by Brazilian Leather – project dedicated to the promotion of leather exports and coordinated by the Centre for the Brazilian Tanning Industry (CICB) in partnership with Apex-Brasil (Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency). This year, DNP also has the support from the Brazilian Shoe Manufacturers Association (Abicalçados) and the Furniture Industry Association of Bento Gonçalves (Sindmóveis).

Lattoog, Sandrin and Rusan will be strongly working towards one of the major Design na Pele trademarks: innovation. “We’ll have one of our stronger articles – suede – where we rarely see it, like on furniture and cushions”, says Rusan’s director Camila Koefender. Discovering new possibilities is also pointed out by Leonardo Lattavo as one of the project’s great differentials. “Leather brings infinite opportunities. When we thought we knew everything about skins, Design na Pele proves that we were wrong”, says Leonardo, whose studio integrates Project Raiz, focused on the international promotion of Brazilian design and coordinated by Apex-Brasil and Sindmóveis Bento Gonçalves. According to Silvio Sandrin, the expectation regarding the project is just excellent – specially because of the partnership that was formed, as it combines artistic expression and the rationalism derived from industrial production.

There are other partnerships underway as part of Design na Pele’s 3rd edition. The project’s schedule foresees the release of the first articles during the first semester of 2017.
