JBS received a commendation for its deforestation risk management system during farm commodity purchases. This is the conclusion from a report called "Realizing zero-deforestation: Transforming supply chains for the future", produced by the CDP - Driving Economies Sustainable, an international NGO which supports development of sustainable economies and uses corporate data on climate change, water and forest utilization to publish information for 298 global investors who represent US$ 19 trillion in assets.

The annual report analyzes the results of 171 companies worldwide as they continue to deliver on their commitments and take steps to increase transparency and accountability on deforestation issues and products that pose a risk to our forests.

JBS has been reporting its results to the CDP since 2010.  In 2015, the company’s socio-environmental monitoring system used to control cattle suppliers’ farms was highlighted for its constant progress and transparency in reporting its results, which undergo annual, independent audits. The company was also highlighted for its engagement with its supply chain via its New Field Program initiatives.  The CDP report notes that JBS is ahead of other industry companies.

“This latest CDP commendation is very important, reinforcing JBS’ commitment to developing a sustainable production chain and fighting deforestation of native forests”, said Márcio Nappo, sustainability director at JBS.

JBS is committed to responsible production, ensuring that its products are not linked with use of slave labor, deforestation or other environmental crimes such as invasion of indigenous lands or environmental conservation units.
