Based on data provided by the Brazilian Ministry for Development, Industry and Foreign Trade (MDIC) the value of hides and skins exports in February reached US$ 188 million, which represents an increase of 24.5 % in relation to February 2012, when US$ 151 million were exported.

According to the Centre for the Brazilian Tanning Industry (CICB), there was also an increase of 14.6 % compared to January 2013, when it was recorded US$ 164 million in international sales.

The year’s accumulated shows a growth of 21% in relation to January/February 2012, totalling US$ 351 million compared to US$ 290 million. The participation of hides and skins in the total amount of exported products also rose from 0.8 % to 1.1 %.
