Semestral exports reached a surplus

The performance of the leather sector in Brazil in the first half of 2013 resulted in a surplus of US$ 1,180,611,592. The figures show that exports of Brazilian hides and skins proved crucial to prevent the country's trade balance from January to June this year (deficit of US$ 3 billion) was even worse.

Only June 2013 reached US$ 197.891 million, an increase of 9.4% over the same period last year, according to data provided by the Bureau of Foreign Trade (Secex), and analysis of the Centre for the Brazilian Tanning Industry (CICB).
