The need to present the world with one of leather segment’s most innovative projects yet has motivated the creation of an exclusive website for Design na Pele. From this month on, anyone can take a journey through the project at designnapele.com.br.

Images, exhibition calendar around Brazil and the world, besides a special magazine and fashion films produced with the leather articles created by the twelve participating tanneries are among the website contents, which are presented in both English and Portuguese.

An unprecedented initiative, Design na Pele aims at bringing renowned designers closer to leather production companies so to create exclusive collections of innovative articles. Celebrated fashion designer Ronaldo Fraga and artist pioneer Heloisa Crocco are the professionals responsible for challenging tanneries to create the most surprising products.

Design na Pele is part of Brazilian Leather – a sectoral project focused on the international promotion of local leather, coordinated by the Centre for the Brazilian Tanning Industry (CICB) in partnership with Apex-Brasil (the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency).

Another digital address released this month is www.usamoscouro.com.br. The page is the starting point for a new leather valorization strategy led by CICB. “Until then, we had been working towards defending leather based on Law 4.888, from 1965, which says that a product can only be named leather if it is made from animal skin”, says executive president of CICB, José Fernando Bello.

“The law originated our Blitz Lei do Couro (Leather Law Blitz) project, when we began to evaluate the way retailers promote footwear, handbags, and accessories. Because the law foresees penalties for the ones who call leather a product made from other materials, our intention was to help shops adapt their communication every time we encountered ads bringing ‘eco-leather’ or ‘synthetic leather’, for example. “So now we have two projects focused on the valorization of the Brazilian leather. The idea is to truly value the ones who use and know how unique and noble leather really is”, adds Bello.

Both web pages are online for you to visit.
