Designers, fashion stylists, researchers, and other professionals from the fashion industry have all taken part of Design na Pele ‘Escritas’ (‘Writings’) official launch in Brazil, leaving the premiere well impressed with the project. The event took place yesterday, July 8th, during the 47th edition of Francal (International Shoe and Accessories Fashion Fair), in São Paulo. Recognized as the most innovative leather and design project in the country, Design na Pele is an initiative of Brazilian Leather, a sectoral project coordinated by CICB (the Centre for the Brazilian Tanning Industry) in partnership with Apex-Brasil (the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency).

Besides having the opportunity to take a close look at the articles developed by the 12 participating tanneries – that through clothes, fashion accessories and furniture pieces expose how versatile leather can truly be –, the public also had the chance to attend a special talk with the two designers who curate the project. For an hour, fashion stylist Ronaldo Fraga and designer Heloisa Crocco unveiled details about Design na Pele. They also took some time to speak with journalists and the general public.

Before its official launch in Brazil, Design na Pele had already been presented in one of the most celebrated design exhibitions in Italy: Brazil S/A, in Milan, where it was much praised by Europeans.

“We were looking forward to present Design na Pele in Brazil, to our public. We received a great number of compliments for the project, and that motivates us. It shows we got it right once again”, says José Fernando Bello, executive president of CICB.

Initiated in 2013, Design na Pele is now under its second edition. This time, it gets a central theme: each participating tannery was challenged into bringing Brazilian culture to unique leather articles, having the theme ‘Escritas’ (‘Writings’) as a common direction. “Design na Pele takes renowned designers inside our tanneries. It is a unprecedented initiative, and a sure success in Brazil and around the world”, adds Bello.
